About the Book

What do we know of the past? Our own past? The history of an area does not stay alive on its own. Left unattended, history fades away from the memory of people. At best, some of the infamous stories survive, but continually moves further away from the truth.

This book is about the culture, folk life and physical landscape changes that have occurred at the confluence of Bayou Pigeon and Grand River from the early 1800’s to present day.

This book attempts to present and preserve a unique story. Without this effort, the history of Bayou Pigeon, Louisiana may be forgotten and completely lost to the descendants of the people who have lived there and made it such a unique place.

This writing will present to people who have been residents, have relatives, a camp, a personal memory, or simply a personal interest and or love for the community of Bayou Pigeon with pictures, images and alternative views of events that shaped Bayou Pigeon not previously expressed by any other works.

We hope that in some small way this book will make a difference and preserve some of the history of Bayou Pigeon and enhance any memories the individual readers may have.
